French Toast Casserole Recipe

This Sourdough French Toast Casserole Recipe is my secret to filling hungry bellies with little effort all while making breakfast feel extra special. It's a weekend go-to breakfast in our house because it's easy to throw together, pop it in the oven then sit back, relax and enjoy the morning. It's also a great recipe to have in your arsenal if you're hosting houseguests for the same reason. French toast casserole is always a crowd pleasing meal. Oh, and believe it or not, it's a great busy morning/week day breakfast as well. You can wake up, throw your casserole together and get ready for the day all while you have hot, fresh, homecooked breakfast awaiting your family in the oven.



Ingredients:


Bread I use a full loaf of our everyday sourdough bread or cinnamon breakfast bread. This is a great recipe to use up bread that is a few days old and may be on its way out, a rarity in our house!

One dozen eggs

Splash of Milk I have omitted this ingredient when I don't have any on hand and it hasn't made too big of a difference, but I like adding it when I have it.

1 TBSP Ground Cinnamon

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Butter for greasing dish

Pure Maple Syrup


How to Make a Yummy, Super Simple French Toast Casserole:


Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°. Butter a 9x13" baking dish.

Step 2: Slice up your bread in large hunks that are somewhat bite size. Place bread into buttered casserole dish in a nice, even layer.

Step 3: Crack eggs into a mixing bowl. Add a splash of milk, a splash of maple syrup, ground cinnamon and vanilla. Whip ingredients together with a whisk.

Step 4: Pour mixture over the top of the bread in your buttered dish. Gently stir ingredients together inside the baking dish to ensure your bread is fully coated by the egg mixture.

Step 5: Bake French Toast Casserole for 30min at 375° or until egg is fully cooked. Drizzle maple syrup over the top, cut, serve warm and enjoy!
