When I first started baking with sourdough, I didn't purchase anything special as there is not much needed to get started. However, one thing I highly recommend having in your kitchen, if you don't already, is a Dutch oven. Baking Sourdough Bread in a Dutch oven steams the bread giving it the best rise. The sides of the Dutch oven keep moisture locked in with the lid on during the first part of your bake. This keeps your bread hydrated. I was gifted a Dutch oven years ago and it's one of the most used items in our kitchen. I use it for cooking soup, stew, stocks, and all sort of things in addition to baking bread.
Most of the items you'll use for sourdough baking may be items you already have in your kitchen. I'm often asked about my giant stone bowls, which I've collected from antique shops and thrift stores. I highly recommend checking out local thrift and yard sales when there's something specific you're looking for and have the time to hunt for it.
I've compiled a list here for you of sourdough making supplies you can grab easily from amazon.
