From the first time I made lotion bars, our family was hooked! A lotion bar is a solid lotion that uses the warmth of your skin to soften it just enough to release the moisture needed for each use. We found that lotion bars can be used in place of body lotion, hand cream, lip balm, you name it. They are cost-effective, more eco-friendly, and give us peace of mind knowing exactly what's in our skincare. Lotion bars are easy and fun to make at home with only a few simple ingredients,

How To Make Homemade Lotion Bars:

This recipe will make six one-ounce lotion bars.

Begin by measuring your shea butter, beeswax, and coconut oil into equal parts and placing them into your double boiler. If you have a kitchen scale, weigh out 2oz. of each. If not, that's ok. Measuring with a measuring cup works too. In this case, measure 1/4 cup of each and place these three ingredients into your double boiler.

  1. Fill a small saucepan/pot with water, bring to a boil, and place your double boiler on top with ingredients in it. If using a glass jar or dish, place the glass "double boiler" in at the same time you bring your water to a boil, rather than placing the glass in after the water is already boiling. This will avoid broken glass from a rapid temperature change... speaking from experience!

  2. Once your shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax are fully melted, remove from heat, add 25-30 drops of essential oil. We love this peppermint stick oil for mint lotion bars. Another favorite combo is cassia and clementine.

  3. Gently stir all ingredients together for a minute or so to combine and promptly pour into molds. When you finish pouring, gently tap the side of your mold a few times to eliminate bubbles forming.

  4. Leave your lotion bars alone for a few hours to set in the molds and harden. After a few hours, they will be ready to pop out of the mold and begin using. The warmth of your skin will remove just enough to moisturize each time you use it. Store them in tins or a glass jar and enjoy! Your lotion bars will store for 6-12 months or as long as your ingredients' nearest shelf life.

If making them yourself is not really your jam, you can purchase ours here.

Homemade Lotion Bars are also great for gifting or for making as a group/family activity. We hope you love using them as much as we do! Comment below if you have questions or if you decide to give these a try. Love, Sara
